Current AEAWA Disputes

 

At times there are disagreements between St John and the AEAWA regarding our agreed and negotiated conditions. When these occur Section 38 of our Certified Agreement (Dispute Settling Procedure) is used. Below are the items were a dispute has occurred, and the status of the outcome of that dispute.

Breach of the Minimum Break Between Shifts - 22nd August 2025.

New Country Ambulance Transport Officer Selection Criteria - 22nd August 2025.

Dispute
St John Ambulance WA have added a selection criterion into the upcoming ATO applications. In essence you must be an EMT to respond to emergencies.

St John Ambulance WA are deciding when and when they should worry about employee fatigue; in essence if they have no crews, they break their own policies.

St John Ambulance WA through little consultation is proposing to change the Station Officer role and the allowance associated with the role.

Ambulance Transport Unreasonable Overtime - 22nd August 2025.

St John Ambulance WA unreasonably making Ambulance Transport Crews work in excess of 5 hours of overtime.

St John Ambulance WA new imposed changes to the Country Deployment Guidelines openly discriminates against Station Officers.

Transfer of TOIL. - 3rd September 2024.

Dispute
St John Ambulance WA denying officers the ability to transfer TOIL to other roles. The AEAWA believe this is a breech of Section 36 of the St John Ambulance Western Australia Ltd. Patient Transport Services Enterprise Agreement 2023.

Leave being deducted from employees. - 28th August 2024.

Dispute
St John Ambulance WA have been deducting leave hours from numerous employees after a recent Annual Leave audit. Employees have been left with no explanation, of why leave hours have been removed from their balances.

Overtime Underpayment & Shift Commencement Allowance (SCA) - 30th July 2024.

Dispute
St John Ambulance WA Ltd have not being paying the overtime extension and the SCA concurrently for officers. The AEAWA believe this is a breech of Section 36 of the St John WA Standard Operating Procedure and Policy SOPP-1003 (Time Cards).

Closed AEAWA Disputes

 

Below are the disputes that have been settled.

Clause 26.6 ‘Introduction of 27 and 47 vehicles' - 3rd February 2021

Dispute
27 Vehicles being made permanent post 12-months of operation. The AEAWA believe that due to the longstanding failure of St John to make these vehicles permanent, it breeches Clause 26.6 ‘Introduction of 27 and 47 vehicles of the St John Ambulance Western Australia Ltd Ambulance Officers/Paramedics Certified Agreement 2021.
