The AEAWA and its membership are shocked and saddened at the horrific events that took place in Sydney today. All officers deserve to return home safely to their families after shift, and events such as this often bring to the forefront the dangers of doing the job we love.
There has been an outpouring of responses from the various unions and associations across Australasia to our New South Wales colleagues. The AEAWA would like them to know that as an Association our members stand beside them through this horrific time.
We are sure debates around the safety of our frontline staff will occur very soon, but for now we all would like to send our condolences to the family and colleagues (particularly the paramedics who attended the scene) of this fallen officer. To the entire team of the New South Wales Ambulance Service, we are saddened for your loss.
